Each week, members of the Lifestyles staff share something we like. Maybe you'll like it, too.
Sylvia Anderson, food/home & garden reporter: I highly recommend Garozzo's wine dinners. Garozzo's is an Italian restaurant with several locations in Kansas City. About once a month they host a wine dinner where they serve a different wine with each course and tell you all about the wines. The food is simply incredible. The next one is Sept. 14 at their Overland Park restaurant with wines from the Winebow portfolio. Check it out at www.garozzos.com.
Tamara Clymer, Lifestyles reporter: I'm a twit ... or maybe that's a tweeter. Whatever... I'm a twitter.com devotee. I use the free social networking and micro-blogging service to not only update my friends with what I'm doing, I often change the status on my Facebook page or add fresh bit of news to my blog. And I don't have to be on the computer to do it. It's just as easy to use my cell phone from a ball field to give followers an update on my son's pitching stats.
Shea Conner, entertainment reporter: I'm not a huge gamer, but I checked out "Batman: Arkham Asylum" because of my love for superheroes (and supervillains). This is not only the best superhero game ever made, but probably one of the best of the year. The graphics are amazing. The plot and imagery are eerie and dark. And Mark Hamill does a wonderful job voicing The Joker, who springs the nutjob criminals free and turns Arkham into Batman's house of horrors. It's nice to see a game studio finally take the time to develop a game that isn't a first-person shooter like "Halo" or "Call of Duty."
Jess DeHaven, Lifestyles editor: You may think it's a little early to be thinking about Halloween costumes, but wait too long and you'll be stuck with everyone else's rejects. If you've get a little kid, check out the selection at Old Navy (probably wouldn't think of that, huh?) Their choices are cute and the price is pretty reasonable. Best of all, the costumes are warm, so if Halloween turns out to be chilly, your child won't have to cover up his or her outfit. My toddler chose the chicken costume.
Blake Hannon, entertainment reporter: As more and more networks are jumping on the reality show bandwagon, the History Channel is following suit. And as a man, the one show I can't help but watch is "Lock N' Load with R. Lee Ermey." You get to learn the evolution of firearms and other artillery while the iconic drill sergeant from "Full Metal Jacket" yells at you on your couch. At ease, ladies.
Erin Wisdom, health/religion reporter:For anyone interested in seeing what life looks like in the ocean, I recommend the Discovery Channel's "Blue Planet" series, which is available on DVD. Of all the DVDs in the set, the only one I've watched is the one that explores the deepest part of the ocean - "a place of mountain ranges, perpetual night and cold, pressure extremes and the strangest life forms on our planet," according to Blue Planet's Web site. It wasn't always pretty; in fact, some of the creatures down there are actually kind of scary. But it was fascinating to see them and definitely made me want to watch the rest of the series.
Nichi Yeager, Josephine editor: Bubble baths. I used to take one at least once a week until I moved into a place that only had a shower in my bathroom. Nice, hot, steamy solitude can work wonders for a stressed mind and body. And really the bubbles aren't even necessary, but the quite and the heat are imperative. I've started to steal my daughter's bathroom (it has a tub) about once a week again and I have definitely noticed an improvement to my moods. Try it. You might just like it too.
