Once you listen to the intricate instrumentation and pummeling drive of Lubbock, Texas, metal group Colossus of Rhodes, you may realize that everything IS bigger in Texas, including the metal. Named after one of the seven wonders of the ancient world, they are influenced by a few wonders of the metal world (Metallica, Iron Maiden) and the genre’s new breed (Avenge Sevenfold, Killswitch Engage). Their music combines equal parts singing and screaming with guitar parts that are expansive, classical and crunching, attempting to find what the band calls a “middle ground of metal” on their debut album “And The Remains Fell.” You can hear the band when they perform with local groups NV and Injected Element at 10 p.m. tonight at the recently re-opened Cagney’s. Cover is $5. To hear their music, go to www.myspace.com/colossusofrhodesmusic.
